I was discussing this on facebook earlier. In Australia, Asians are under-represented. In Japan, white people, along with black people, are used as stage props.

Here white people are used to create some sort of High School Musical scene. A white extra can get a lot of work in Japan, but very rarely with the chance to say anything intelligent or otherwise appear as a regular member of society.
Apparently though, New Zealand has some Asian actors on their TV. Unfortuantely I don't know the details.
